cannot extract .exe by using cabextract

halo.... i did downloaded a cabextract-1.1.tar.gz from :http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php

I am trying to install ndiswrapper (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...p/Installation)
and it is required a window driver to support it.

I did found a window driver from this link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-59438

When i tried to extract the 1rwc89ww.exe, there is an error message shown in terminal :
[root@hb2b-130 1rwc89ww]# cabextract 1rwc89ww.exe
1rwc89ww.exe: no valid cabinets found

All done, errors in processing 1 file(s)

Did anyone know why ???

If I remember correctly, cabextract is intended to extract files from a windows .cab file, which is similar to a Unix .tar file: it's an archive of files.

A windows .exe is an executable file. It either runs an application, or it runs an installer to instal an application.

So, it should not be a suprise that cabextract won't extract an .exe.

It appears that this 1rwc89ww.exe is a self extracting zip file. The linux unzip utility is capable of extracting files from a self extracting zip file.

My fault.. 1rwc89ww.exe is windows installer package not a self extracting zip file nor a cab file. You will need to use windows to extract the files.
