Cannot Delete incomplete partitions or Start HDD

I had a dual boot system with WinXP and Linux using Lilo. I wanted to get rid of Linux and unpartition my hard disk to get rid of Linux. I didn't know the problems I created at the time until it was too late. I tried to delete them all and reinstall WinXP Bootloader. Now, after I've tried any and everything and since I'm stuck at this point, I am left with a Compaq Laptop that does not start up correctly. I have, the main bootable partition, soo small, it cannot hold anything, but since I cannot resize it, I'm stuck with it unable to access any others. I tried to reinstall WinXP at this point without realizing what I'd done and now the computer, when it restarts every single time (even with bootable cd's in the CD-ROM drive which is supposed to boot before HDD). I have no idea what to do next. I basically need to format the MBR, HDD, and delete the other partitions giving the main partition full size. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! I soo messed this one up...

Thanks,
TruHuSKa  :study:

at this point you need to run fdisk and delete all your
partitions and start fresh. the easiest was is to use a
win 98 boot disk and choose "start computer with cdrom
support". then you can run fdisk, delete all partitions,
create a new primary partition using your whole drive,
and install XP (although I cant imagine why you would want
to do so)

But I cannot get the CD's to boot, it constantly tries to goto WINXP Setup... I'm trying to get Win98 SE back on this one but it's soooo hosed I have no idea what to do...

are you only using an XP cd? the win98cd lets you
start in dos mode, where you can run FDISK...the XP cd
starts the install immediately...when XP asks you what
partition to install to, i think you can use that screen to
choose partitions and hit <d> to delete them...should work the
same way as FDISK
