Cannot delete an email from INBOX in Evolution

Hello,

I am using Evolution 1.4 running under RH9. Last week I received an email advertisement from saks.com. Whenever I click on this email in the INBOX, Evolution just hangs. I cannot see the contents of the email, I cannot delete this email, and I cannot move to another message in the INBOX. I have to kill and restart Evolution to keep reading email. So long as I leave this email untouched, Evolution seems to work OK. How can I (probably outside of Evolution) find the offending email and delete it?

The path is /home/bob/evolution/local/mbox

This is a single file with all emails inside. So, you have to search for the email and delete only it.

I guess evolution creates an index with email headers, also. You can either erase the header, or let evolution rebuild it, assuming it will do it without crashing.
