Ask them. They may have a database created already, or expect you to make one.
Maybe I need a bit more information on how they expect it to interact with MySQL? Mailing lists? Username / password type thing?

i don't know i was only making an example...but supposing it is the case of mailing lists?

Hmm. They'd probably want you to do it. Only if they were planning something big would they pay a MySQL expert to design the database very well. Then again I may be wrong, but yeah.

and once they have setted the db they should give me usrname and pw to connect to the mysql server like this

(mysql_connect("localhost", $username_provided, $pw_provided))

right? they also sould have set the permissions to let me create tables and so...but i think that i'll learn these things only working and yeah maybe someone more expert than me will teach how does this work.

Yeah, you'll be given the username and password to connect to.
I'm assuming you have a basic knowledge of MySQL? Even if you're not making the database, you'll need some knowledge of it to get the information stored inside.
