Cannot configure sendmail to use gmail smtp (makemap and permissions)

Hello,

I have installed sendmail from source in Ubuntu 10.10, just for fun and have actually been forced to stop at the point when I create my configuration in the client-info file.

I entered the details as required and tried to create the client-info.db file after working around the permissions.

This is what I get

Code:

sudo makemap -r hash /etc/mail/auth/client-info.db < /etc/mail/auth/client-info
bash: /etc/mail/auth/client-info: Permission denied

SElinux or apparmor installed ?

Nope. This was a clean install. Ubuntu 10.10 clean, all required software was installed from source as the repos are down, as 10.10 is unsupported.
