Angry Cannot configure mouse

I've just installed RH7.1 and when I try to start X I get this message:

(==) ATI(0): Backing store disabled
(**) ATI(=): DPMS enabled
(**) Mouse0: protocol "PS/2"
(**) Mouse0: Core pointer
(EE) xf860penSerial: cannot open device /dev/mouse
No such file or directory
(EE) Mouse0: Cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Mouse0"
(II) Keyboard "Keyboard0" handeled by legacy driver
(WW) No core pointer registered

No core pointer

Fatal server error:
failed to initalize core devices

1. Yes I have a ps/2 mouse and a ps/2 port, and I have runned
2. /dev/mouse DO exist, and the file permissions should be ok...
3. ls -l /dev/mouse shows me that it is a symlink to /dev/psaux, all file
permissions ok here to...
4. I've tried to start X without mouse.....doesen't work either. Same
error message again.....:

cannot open device /dev/mouse
No such file or directory

Why does X still try to open /dev/mouse when I have selected NO MOUSE in
mouseconfig ??

And WHY am I getting the error.......:

cannot open device /dev/mouse
No such file or directory

....when all the files are there, and have all the right
