Question Cannot compile perl - 'G not found'?

im trying to install mod_perl for apache on an ancient machine
I found gcc and make in nonstandard directories like /usr/ccs/bin/ and /usr/local/bin/ so added them to PATH

While running make/make install for mod_perl, it cannot create the final files because 'G' is not found

# uname -a
SunOS snoopy 5.8 Generic_108528-22 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-60
gcc -B/usr/ccs/bin/ -fPIC -O -I/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.0/sun4-solaris/CORE -fno-strict-aliasing  -DMOD_PERL_VERSION=\"1.30\" -DMOD_PERL_STRING_VERSION=\"mod_perl/1.30\" -I/usr/local/apache1341/include -DMOD_PERL -DSOLARIS2=280 -DUSE_EXPAT -I../lib/expat-lite  -c Table.c && mv Table.o Table.lo
rm -f
G -L/usr/local/lib -o mod_perl.lo perlxsi.lo perl_config.lo perl_util.lo perlio.lo mod_perl_opmask.lo  Apache.lo Constants.lo ModuleConfig.lo Log.lo URI.lo Util.lo Connection.lo Server.lo File.lo Table.lo -L/usr/local/lib  /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.0/sun4-solaris/auto/DynaLoader/DynaLoader.a -L/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.0/sun4-solaris/CORE -lperl -lsocket -lnsl -ldl -lm -lc
sh: G: not found
