Cannot access Evolution e-mail

Hi Guys,

I'm having problems with Evolution e-mail in that I cannot connect to my server, although I can access the Internet after doing the IPv6 thing.
At present I'm using 'Ubuntu' live.
I have also tried SuSe live and by using Kmail can send and receive e-mails.
My settings are as follows:-

Evolution e-mail
Full name = My Name
E-mail address = my_name@btinternet.com
Default Account, yes, ticked.
Receiving mail
Server type = Pop
Server = Mail.btinternet.com
Username = my_name
Use secure connection = never (not on any other systems)
Authentication = Password (tried 'login' but no better)
Remember password = ticked
Check for new mail, ticked 10 mins.
Storage, leave mail on server, yes (I always do this.)
Sending mail
Server type SMTP
Server mail.btinternet.com
Server needs authentication
Secure connection = never
Account name = BTMail
Time zone Europe/LOndon
Apply
OK.
Result = Message says 'cannot connect to server'
Connection directly to Internet via Router, it works on everything else!
Thanks in advance guys

For sending Email, uncheck "server needs authentication". If you continue to encounter problems, the server name(s) may be wrong, so verify them. For my ISP, the URL to receive Email is "postoffice....." but the URL to send mail is "mail......". Perhaps your ISP does something similar

Hi J.W.

Thanks for the e-mail. However I've tried that suggestion already, and as all the above works well on Kmail I still don't see what is wrong.
For example, in Kmail the host is 'mail.btinternet.com' for pop and smtp.
(also in Outlook Express) and also in both of the former 'server needs authentication' needs to be ticked.
I had exactly the same problem in Fedora core4 so went over to Kmail.
Even my ISP cannot give me any ideas as to what is wrong.
Regards,
Leonardo38

Hi Guys,

I gave up on Evolution and went back to KMail!
Apparently my ISP needs a password before it will accept me, and there is no place to insert same in the set-up.
I can get into Yahoo without a P/Word but as I don't like Yahoo I'll stick with what works for me.
