Can you shrink a partition?
I have a half full partition and need to shrink it just a little to expand the size of another I've used for swap. Rather than back it up, delete & recreate both then restore I was wondering if theres a smart way to do it in situ.

you have 'fips' on your installation cd's, which is dos based, but might be able to edit the linux partitions.. not sure actually. You can get 'parted' off the net, which is linux based. You can also use resize2fs to just shrink the size of the filesystem, but not the partition, and then use cfdisk or such like to erase the partition and make a new smaller one in it's place (without destroying data.. apparently)
i don't *think* redhat has a suitable installation tool for this tho, whereas mandrakes DiskDrake is perfect for that sort of thing. |
