Can you see this or not... what plugin do I need?
Debian 'sarge' with 2.6.11-1-k7 kernel and Gnome 2.8
Using Mozilla-firefox 1.04:
Go here: http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/cms.asp?Page=/Home
click on 'Looking for a job?'
click on 'search for a job'
you should see three boxes with numbers 1, 2, and 3 on them
in box number 1, there should be lines of texts in it, but there isn't
I can see these lines of texts in Opera or IE, but not in Mozilla-firefox
I tried install java and that didn't help

strange...the source is javascript which I have never had a problem viewing in Firefox...I'm stumped
Edit: Looking at the Javascript Console shows this error:
Error: group has no properties
Source File: http://www.sp3.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/...Script/JGTT.js
Line: 16
quite honestly I have no idea what that means

I wonder if that is a bug in mozilla or we just simply don't have permission?

I have the same problem with Firefox 1.0.4 on XP SP2. It may be that the page isn't coded for "alternaive" browsers.
You could try going in via Konqueror and setting it to identify itself as IE6.0. I'd also suggest that you email the webmaster - as a Government website it is meant to be accessible to all, especially under the Disability Discrimation Act.

I have a solution for the Job Centre Plus Job Search problem. Over the past few days I've been writing a PHP script to rewrite the dodgy Javascript to be compatible with Mozilla browsers.
http://widearea.org/jcp/
You can look at the source at http://widearea.org/jcp/source/ - it's still a work in progress. It doesn't make it perfect, but at least it works.
I think that the Job Centre or EDS (the idiots who wrote it) should fix this.
Stephen.

EDS are likely to have whatever instructions were clearly laid out by the customer - in this case JobCentre Plus/the Department for Work and Pensions.

I think that Job centre website is one of those listed by the bbc as incompatible with alternative web browsers.

Select a Job Group from the list
(if you choose 'All Groups', go to Step 4)
2
Select a Job Type from the list
(if you select 'All Job Types', go to Step 4)
3
Select a Job Title from the list
(now go to Step 4 to review your search choices)
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 SUSE/1.0.4-1.1
so either its been fixed or it is a plugin issue.

The compatibility problems are mainly due to the use of MSIE-specific Javascript. I seriously doubt that the JobCentre or DWP would have specified in that much detail how the site is implemented. Unless the JobCentre or DWP said 'it only needs to work in MSIE' then it's the people who wrote the code who are responsible for the incompatibility - EDS (even if they subcontracted the work I still blame them).
