Can xxd do this?

I'm trying to add some text at a certain place on a CF card... if that makes sense, it doesn't to me, much

A long time I flashed the firmware on a Canon DSLR so that it can boot from a CF card. I think that's what's happening anyway! It 'unlocked' settings. Along the way I must have done some hexadecimal edits to the CF card so that it could boot correctly. The instructions I followed were for Windows and HxD.

That CF card is only 1GB so I want to get it working with my 16GB card.
I think I now just need to add "EOS_DEVELOP" at 0x47 and "BOOTDISK" at 0x5C. The latter may already be there.

xxd is preinstalled with openSUSE Leap so I thought I'd try to use that first. Is it up to the job? The man pages and --help kinda fly over my head with this one. I think the only hex editting I've done was in 2010 when I did the 1GB card!

Thanks!

Using a hex editor would be a lot easier. There are GUI hex editors but I like hexedit.

Basically you move to 0x47 in the ASCII side and type in your string. Press ctrl-x to save and exit.
