Question can watch movie using gmplayer in root, but not as a user!?

hi, i'm able to watch movie using mplayer as root, or as a user from shell.
but i can only watch movie using gmplayer as a root. not as a user.

when i bring up gmplayer as a user, the gui interface comes up fine. but when i start have it play movie, it will pops up a error window stated:

Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.

so mplayer works fine for both user and root, but not gmplayer,

any suggestions would be appreicated
