That looks like a Slackware package, its not going to work unless you have pkgtools installed which is Slackware mainly.

At times you can extract like a regular tar.gz file but I don't see how its going to help you if someone else compiling this package for you, not like we can transfer it over, etc to you.

The file opens under mandrake 9.2 9.1 and with winrar. I just doubled clicked and got all these files. Then I am supposed to do a cd into the directory and say
make KERNELDIR=/usr/ and the kernel dir here
however I get a bunch of errors, so I need someone with experience to compile it for me and it will make a file called hpt37x2.o in the same directory.

I also have mandrake 9.2 and have been having trouble compiling programs. From what other people here have told me, it seems the compiler installed on this version of mandrake is faulty: gcc ver 2.9.6. Basically, you have to install a different compiler. I haven't actually figured out how to do that, since you have to compile the new compiler, and I can't seem to compile anything. Catch 22. Sorry I wasn't able to help directly, but maybe this will help clarify the problem. If you figure it out, let me know. Thanks.

Can't you rpm a later version of the compiler [mandy is rpm-based, isn't it?]
