Can Real Poweroff Computer without recompile kernel?
================================================ My RedHat Linux uses Kernel 2.4.20-8. When I use poweroff to shut down my computer, it works properly. But it couldn't REALLY POWER OFF like it works in WindowsXP. Someone told me to recompile the kernel. I have tried it 5 times but failed. Are there any solutions to solve this problem without recompile kernel? Please Help me. Thanks! Favorites (CHN) |
i think you need to switch to a more modern 2.6 kernel

OR a more modern 2.4 kernel...
2.4 is much more stable at he moment.. but.. if you can't get your current kernel to compile... that's a problem. |
You need a kernel that supports acpi. So just google for a kernel that provides acpi support on your distro. I know my FC1 2.4.26 kernel had acpi so maybe upgrade to that kernel.
