smbmount mounts a Linux SMB filesystem. It is usually
invoked as mount.smbfs by the mount(8) command when using
the "-t smbfs" option. This command only works in Linux,
and the kernel must support the smbfs filesystem.

OK, I didnt know about smbmnt. So what you're saying is that smbmnt is more directed towards connecting to windows shares, and smbmount is more specifically directed towards linux smb shares. So therefore, smbmnt can be setuid root, and will alllow normal users (i.e. uid=501+) to mount SMB shares from windows machines....

I hope you're right!!! I'll let oyu know if I notice any difference.

Yeah I think that's what Im trying to say. Well not me, that info is from the man pages. Just do man smbmount and/or man smbmnt and youll get that info and more. Hopefully this will make a difference.
