Can not write to Samba Linux Shares from Windows
Can someone explain or point me to a tutorial (i have checked the web, but can't find what im looking for)

I have several samba shares on my linux server that are in vfat format. They are mounted in /etc/fstab and owned by root and have permissions of 755. But I can not write to my shares from windows.

my smb.conf has security set to user.

Here are my questions.

how does the smbadduser tool corresponds to linux user accounts?

Does the linux permissions override the permissions in smb.conf?

If it is owned by root and has 755 permissions, then only root can write to that partition, right?

As for Samba permissions vs Linux, user has to first authenticate through Samba, get his smb account mapped to linux account, get through samba permissions (e.g. writeable=yes), and then decision whether he has access made based on regular linux priviliges.
