can not open avi at suse


hiii everyone
i just installed linux suse yesterday and i found a problem to open .avi the media player installed with suse kaffein does not play it so if anyone know a third party easy to install(as i am a new user of linux)please tell me

Well MPlayer is quite good, and I've not yet found a file it won't play (it does have some timing difficulties with .flv files though.)

It is not that easy to compile, but maybe a package (.rpm or .deb or whatever you like or use) is available. Simply google for it.

Yes, good multimedia stuff is packaged by the Packman repository. Add that to the installation sources and you will find all the media stuff ready to install. Never had an issue with Packman repo.

hiii
i have google on mplayer and following some tips to install it and i have installed it but it plays nothing so if there is a simple solution to that or tips to follow plz tell me (plz simple solutions as i am new to linux(only 3 days now))

Did you install the codecs?

Does it report any specific errors?

It is basically useless without the codecs...
