can not install shc for encrypting shell scripts


Dear all,

I downloaded shc-3.8.7.tgz and tried to install it.

but i am getting error that is

make: *** [install] Error 1

I am giving the steps i followed to install shc

1. tar -xzvf shc-3.8.7.tgz

2. cd cd shc-3.8.7

3. make

4. make install

i got the following error.

*** Installing shc and shc.1 on /usr/local
*** żDo you want to continue?
make: *** [install] Error 1

Please help me..

Press 'y' instead of enter when it prompt "Do you want to continue?".

Dear Quanta,

when i press y then i got the following errors...

[oracle@MIS shc-3.8.7]$ make install
*** Installing shc and shc.1 on /usr/local
*** żDo you want to continue? y
install -c -s shc /usr/local/bin/
install: cannot create regular file `/usr/local/bin/shc': Permission denied
make: *** [install] Error 1


please help

This message appears only, when you try to install as unprivileged user.

Ubuntu : sudo make install

Other Linux : 1) su ; <enter-password> ; 2) make install

You need to install as root:
Code:
su -c 'make install'
You need to enter your root password. Cheers,

when i typed su -c 'make install' i got the error

install -c -m 644 shc.1 /usr/local/man/man1/
install: target `/usr/local/man/man1/' is not a directory: No such file or directory
make: *** [install] Error 1

please help me...

Dear all,

Thank you very much The problem is solved. by crating directory

mkdir -p /usr/local/man/man1
