Can not get in open up network

Well in root I typed this "[CODE]$> ps -awuxx | grep smbd" nothing happened so I typed this "ps -awuxx | grep smbd" and this is what happened.

root 16323 0.0 0.2 3500 624 pts/os 14:01 0:00 grep smbd
I tried to access the network again but it did not work.

Now to make myself clearer: since I used Linux I have been able to use internet through the LAN line with no problem. The second computer which uses XP was connected to the internet and the comp with Linux accessed it via the LAN line.

The last installation of Linux was red hat 9 and this time I could access the files that were on the computer running xp which I could not access before because I had not setup network. I had been told how to do it but I never had success setting it up. This time the network was setup without me having to do any thing. and it worked for a while but I did somthing ither I went to a website that had a virous or it happend when I instaled somthing

Here is the problem it gives me now:

"Couldn’t display "smb:///", because Nautilus can not contact the master browser
Check that an smb server is running in the local network"

I do not know how to check this out:
"Check that an smb server is running in the local network"

ps: one of the first things I did was take of the firewall that was put back on.

One more thing I can't seem to get into my floppy disk I try to mount it but this is what happens.
"Can't mount disk need to specify filesystem to mount"

I had formatted it and set the filesystem to most of the filesystem list but when I go to mount it the filesystem shows it on auto. How do I fix this?

It is not as much as a networking problem as filesharing misconfiguration. Previously, you had SAMBA installed (and probably pre-configured for your setup) on you linux box - SAMBA is the means to share files amongst windows and linux hosts. I don't know what you have changed since then but it is obvious that SAMBA isn't running ( and possibly not configured if installed) on your linux box. You can download samba from http://samba.org/ and search here on how to configure it.
Good luck.

OK I went to the website and dl samba 3 and installed it no problems there howerver the problem yet remains.

"Couldn’t display "smb:///", because Nautilus can not contact the master browser
Check that an smb server is running in the local network"

As seen above in red, that is the problem that it gives me when I try to access the network.

I went and installed redhat-config-samba gui I also checked it under the text config. and it shows that I have samba server.

Is that where I go to do this
"Check that an smb server is running in the local network"

If not how do I find it and if it is the right place then what do I do now.

Here is a little history of what I did before the problem came up.

I installed Opera.7.5 no problems smooth sailing.
About 2 days later I installed Mplayer-Oper4. No problems there Ether

Later maybe the same day I dl and uncompressed gqview (this is a picture viewer and editor) I did not install it rather I ran it from the uncompressed folder. I found out later (after the problem with my network) that I should have installed it but when I tried to it would not install it gave me an error before I even got to (make) all I did was type ./configure and it went for a while like everything was going fine but then it gave me an error.

I do not believe I ever restarted the computer. After installing anything from opera to the mplayer (well those are actually the only two things that I ever installed)

Note: I do not remember actually what it said when Installing Mplayer but I do know I saw something pertaining to (Nautilus)

I got Smbd running through menu - system settings - server settings - services and then checked the smb box and pressed run. It said that smbd is running but nmbd is not. HOW do I get it to run.
