Unhappy Can not change monitor refresh rate in ATI Catalyst Center

I recently made a mistake in attempting to edit Sudoers; so I decided to reinstall Ubuntu 11.04.
When booting into Ubuntu now an error message displays on the Dell 1708FB-BLK monitor: "The current input timing is not supported by this monitor." I'm using the VGA receptacle on this monitor.
I opened ATI Catalyst Control Center and clicked on Monitor 1; but it has 75HZ refresh rate which disagrees with the 60HZ refresh rate elsewhere at Control Center>Monitors and it doesn't allow changes.
I reinstalled the proprietary FGLRX driver and the ATI Catalyst Control Center without any change. Also ran Command: 'xrandr --output DFP1 --Mode 1280x1024 --rate 60; but there was no change.
I'd appreciate any help

I opened System>Administration>Additional Drivers and removed FLGX Proprietary Driver
and rebooted. The error message no longer pops-up. Guess I will have to see if there is a
better Proprietary Driver or an ATI Radeon 4200 Driver for Linux.
Not sure if this problem is really solved yet.

Can not change monitor refresh rate in ATI Catalyst Control Center

After doing some research, found that I am not the only one with ATI Radeon HD 4200 FLGRX Proprietary Driver Problems.
BTW ATI Catalyst Control Center comes with FLGRX.
I found this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troublesho...thRadeonDriver
Hope this helps others with this problem
