Can no type in GDI

The keyboard still works because I can press CTRL+ALT+F1 or F7 and switch back and forth but nothing shows up on the screen when I am in the GDI and try to type. I can type just fine on the F1 screen. Sorry if my terms aren't correct. I'm still pretty new to linux. I'm running SUSE 10. It doesn't matter if I use a USB or PS/2 keyboard. I had this happen a few weeks ago on a laptop I loaded with SUSE 10 and then after a couple reboots (i think) it started working again. I've rebooted this PC about 20 times and i'm still having the problem. I've tried booting to init 3 and then doing start X. Same problem. I'm using KDE but this is happening with all the GDIs for my user and for root. Any help would be great.

I'm not sure if you are asking a question or not. Once X is started i can got to a tty and the keyboard types fine.. it just won't type in X. The keyboard is still working because it allows me to switch beteen tty and X.
