I reboot today and now I can no longer startx as my regular user I wrote this down by hand because I don't know where it would be logged at, but here are the errors I get. I am typing this from root because I can login as root.

If you can log in as root, go into /home/brett and maker sure that .ICEAuthority is owned by brett users. I've noticed that for some reason it occaisionally ends up being owned by root, and that will give you this kind of warning. If the .Xauthority error stays, move it to another name (.Xauthority_old) and then re-start X. Hopefully that will do the trick.

I'm pretty sure I've tried both of those, and neither worked.

edit: nevermind, I got home and deleted both of those and ran startx again and it worked. I had tried this before and all it did was give the same error, my purpose in doing this was to create new files because I had messed with the other 2 before, but it seems to have just worked so thats even better. Thanks for the help. It's fixed but I don't know why.
