Does anyone know whether KAddressBook or any other KDE pim can be extended to support additional contact information fields without modifying the source code? I have a user that currently uses the ACT contact management system on Windows and would like to move to Linux. The user doesn't use any of the advanced features of ACT, just collects some additional user information related to her business, so this is essentially adding five or six text fields for a contact. I'd like to use KAddressBook or some other contact database that can be used in Kontact.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

I realize that your question is now quite old. However, as of this writing, you can add new fields to kaddressbook.
Open kaddressbook, and when you open the card for a contact (kontact? ) there will be a custom fields tab.
Oddly enough, when I go in through the unified kontact interface, instead of kaddressbook, I don't see this tab.
