I have SuSE linux 9.1 personal is it possible install 9.2 professional? Can I take the upgrade version and finish in no time or format and install the new version?
The SuSE 9.2 Update is nothing else but a 'normal' 9.2 Professional. It's simply cheaper and contains less documentation (this was the case with all previous update versions, I don't know if this has changed with 9.2, but I don't think so). However, if you have downloaded the 9.1 Personal-ISO, you will not be entitled to receive the cheaper Update version. You'll need to be a registered user, I guess.
Sure it is possible to update. Once you have an installation source of 9.2, you may use the 'System Update' function of Yast without partitioning or formating. But that depends on your choice.
eah, on SuSE it is mainly the support, which sux anyway, that makes the difference between Pro and personal.
Also some more packages may be in the pro I think, but hey... you can download and install whatever you want. You don't need it from SuSE directly on DVD or on CD ... go to freshmeat or an .rpm-site
As of the 9.2 there is no real personal version any more. There is however a Students version which is cheaper and the only difference is that you don't get all information and installation support you would get with the proffesional. With the 9.1 there was a difference between the proffesional and the personal, the proffesional had some programs and servers the personal didn't
