Can I resume programitically after using pm-suspend?

Hi. I am trying to suspend (i.e. shut down monitors) and resume (wake them up again) a desktop machine which has a serial keypad (rather than a keyboard) attached.
I can suspend the PC by running a script which calls pm-suspend when a key on the keypad is pressed, however I also want to wake it up again from the keypad - I cannot find a way of doing this. Can anyone help?
(Note: Distro is Red Hat 6.5 or openSuse 13.1, I am running Qt application)

I found an earlier post here which might get you started:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...device-840040/

It's referring to a usb device but I'm hoping the same principal will work with your serial device. I'm not finding a lot of complete information so far, hopefully someone else can find something more if the above doesn't help you much.
