Can I have more than 75 dpi screen resolution in Linux?

The question is above.

It depends on what colour depth you select and what resolution you want to use. You will also have to select the 100DPI font set for your XFree86.

Screen resolution?

I have 96 dpi at 800 x 600 with 256 colors in Windows.
I would be satisfied with the same in Linux.
By the way, is it the reason why jpg pictures are of so bad quality in Linux?
The KDE jpeg viewer places large brown patches onto darker parts of pictures.
Star Office - which shows excellently the photos in Windows - produces very annoying coloured lines in the pictures.
Both produce very little but still disturbing coloured dots on the pictures.
