can grip encode in mp3 form or just ogg?
 

can grip rip music tracks into mp3 format or just ogg? If i made a burned cd from the ogg files would they play on cd players fine?

To rip mp3's you need a mp3 encoder. Get lame here.

.ogg will not play on a cd player. To play on a cd player they will have to be .wav.
Or if you have a player that plays mp3 from cd then they will have to be .mp3.

After installing Lame, choose Lame encoder in grip to rip with, and you'll get mp3's.

i can choose lame and it changes some options but the encode file format says this ~/ogg/%A/%d/%n.ogg so the files still end up as .ogg. Can i just change the parts that say ogg to mp3 to get it to work?

To use lame you will have to have it installed. Then you can choose encode as mp3.

yeah i have it installed and i choose the lame option from the drop down menu in grip preferences and it changes tanother text box's info to mp3 but the encode file format says this ~/ogg/%A/%d/%n.ogg so the files still end up as .ogg.

after u select lame u then need to also do the following (fedora core 1 install)
on that same tab at the bottom u will see "encoder file format" which is the path to rip the track to. change anything that has ".ogg" to ".mp3". repeat this process on the "rip" config tab at bottom which will say "rip file format" followed by a path
