Every GNU/Linux is.

Put this in your crontab (man crontab):

* */1 * * * aplay /home/YOU/gong.mp3

thank you

by posting this specific question regarding damnsmall I have confirmed that it is possible to play an hourly chime

I have posted more than once in an attemp to be more clear as I got O response. this should be easily solved. I do not understand your badger

This is damn small linux,

if I go to /etc/crontab and open the executable file and add the line suggested nothing happens on the hour

if I add the line 0 * * * * play/home/dsl/chime.au
nothing happens

if I open a console window and type:
play /home/dsl/chime.au
the sound plays via sox I guess

aplay does not work

I also put this line in a text file and typed crontab /thefile and it created a var/spool/cron/crontab file

this did not do anything

I have added etc/crontab to the .filetool1st dir

I have added sudo /etc/init.d/cron start in /opt/bootlocal.sh

so the deamon is started and sox will play the file

this was the suggestion in the info file for the cron.dsl extension in addition to editing the crontab

it also suggested I may add to the cron.hourly dir and then change the filetool add to cron.hourly

I do not know how to add to this dir..a text file with the line does not seem to work

I also tryed copy of the var/spool/cron/crontab/file to cron.hourly

I cannot seem to put it together

the documentation seems to vary as there are versions of both linux and cron so I am attempting to be specific so I can get help
