Can anyone recommend an indexing app other than htdig?

I have millions of documents. I don't remember where everything in them is. I use htdig to index and search them but it's slow and doesn't have convenient CLI searching app. As near as I can tell htdig is the only one in the Slackware package. Are there others?

Of course, it does help is things are arranged systematically. I don't use any such tool, because I have file structures like
