Can any mainstream music players be formatted like this? [Deadbeef's group by album]

After deciding to drop Wine completely, I've been having a hard time getting my music players to look like how I perfected Foobar2k. The thing was so perfect. The closest I've got is to Deadbeef, but I was wondering if I can achieve this look on a more mainstream player, as Deadbeef is still pretty buggy and lacks per-track tag editing for multiple files. Still, this is the look I'm in love with. I achieved this in F2k with SimPlaylist (and then some, such as adding a customized edit section), and for Deadbeef (picture attached), I used the custom formatting under Group By: "%album artist% ['['%year%']'] %album%".

Every other music player I've tried tend to have the simple list of albums to the left and definitely lack the level of customization that Foobar2k and Deadbeef provide. Making a "section" tag, for instance, has proven useful in shortening lengthy song titles (still in progress, as you can see), but still, if the overall look can be approximated, I think I'd switch to something less buggy.

Fiddling around with it, I got very close, thanks for the suggestion! Also, is it just me, or is it incapable of reading Album Artist tags? Think I might stick with Deadbeef until I figure it out.

Bump for more suggestions.

DeadBeef is based on Audacious which is a very good lightweight player. However there are so many music players that will do what you want. It's just a matter of configuration. Check out this link.

I'm familiar with most of those (and all of the earlier ones). They're just music players, non talk about customizing configuration options. Even Audacious, I tried figuring out how to make it look like that, but no luck. It certainly isn't nearly as close to Foobar as Deadbeef is, unless I'm missing a set of hidden options?

So did you try nightingale, tomahawk, or Quod Libet?

Chris Weimer 02-15-2017 05:16 PM

Yep. Quod Libet is good but still lacking in the cover art department (at least compared to Deadbeef/Foobar). It's definitely my second favorite, and their other ways of browsing by cover art should satisfy most people. I saw nothing like what I'd prefer in Tomahawk (and very little customizing options as far as I can tell). Nightingale I actually didn't try, but Songbird I used to use back in the day. Unfortunately, Nightingale isn't in Fedora's repositories, and if memory serves, can't be configured for that particular look anyway.

They all can do various things, but I've yet to replicate that look exactly.
