can't route sound to HDMI in Miro on Debian
vlc works fine after i put the .asoundrc file with my card and device # but Miro will only play from the laptop speakers. I've searched about Miro specifically but there's not a lot out there.
I'm not married to Miro but I like how it saves your position in a video to pick up later.
I'm trying to get away from vlc because my movies are on a file server shared with nfs. i guess vlc doesn't buffer very much so over the network i get a little twitch in the video every 10 or 20 seconds. very annoying.
If you know how i can make miro route sound to my tv or have another setup i'd love to hear about it.
--edit--
i just tried mplayer you can specify alsa and which hw device in the .mplayer/config file but it's still not working.
Tried vlc and that has no audio either. it's getting worse!
Thanks!

SMplayer is a good alternative that will remember where you left off. And it buffers as much as you set it to. So I assume your HDMI sound is working now?

Yes, audio is working over HDMI. S/PDIF was muted. I guess in installing and uninstalling miro, banshee, totem it got muted. or something. i dont know.
I'll look as SMplayer but I'm liking the simplicity of mplayer.
Thanks!

Smplayer is a graphical front-end to Mplayer, giving you access to the better settings of Mplayer. It's by far my favorite because it allows you to set the buffer rate, and a lot of other stuff. If you like Mplayer, it's a no-brainer in my book. Everybody is always talking about VLC, but I think this less-known player is far superior.
