can't paste into vim

Using Slackware 12
I can't paste text into vim. I have the setting: set paste.

It indicates at the bottom of the screen: INSERT(paste), but it turns to insert (VISUAL) when I try to paste in text.

Hi,

What you have to do is hold "Shift" and then paste.

Thanks, this worked for me. Not being able to paste from other apps into vim had been driving me nuts for a while now!

To add:

I don't have the 'set paste' option in my .vimrc and this still works

You can also click your middle mouse button to act as the 'paste' command (assuming your mouse is set up to paste when the middle button is clicked)

Thanks for your help. When I used Ubuntu I just used the method I mentioned in the post and that's what I found in the vimbook.

I just reinstalled slack12 on my comp, and pasting with Right mouse button(in vim) stopped working :/

I don't know what has changed, i use the same version of Vim and same vimrc, but i still can't paste with right mousebutton.

When i press right mouse button the --INSERT-- changes to --(insert) VISUAL -- instead of pasting.

What have i done wrong?

EDIT: I know i can press Shift+mouse2, but i didn't have to do so before...

EDIT2: Oh, finally found a solution... Just had to add "set mouse-=a" into my vimrc.

Its not too good to bump that old thread, but this problem makes me crazy and today I finally found a sollution, hope this will helps to other people with same problem.

This thing happens in my case on slackware 12.1 and slackware 13.0 x86_64 .

Its almost the same as that that f000l says, but in my case setting

in .vimrc solved issue, with set mouse=a problem still exists.
