Can't get CUPS to rock in Red Hat, works flawless in Slackware

I'm normally using slackware, and I got my printerserver up and running there in a few minutes. Now I've installed Red Hat 9 on demand from a friend of mine, and I can't get CUPS to even print a test page! I've used the same configuration as I did in my slackware 10.0 setup, but it won't do in Red Hat 9.0 as it seems to be.

I can ping all of my 3 network printers, I've installed them within CUPS, and everything seems to work as it should untill I try to print that test page. It won't print. What I get is:

Code:
Description: Samsung ML-7300N, Vaning 2
Location: 192.168.1.8
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs.
"Remote host did not respond with command status byte after 300 seconds!"
Device URI: lpd://192.168.1.8/
Dunno what's wrong, I can ping it, but it says that it doesn't respond? Is there any settings in Red Hat 9 that I've missed?

Thanks for any help

make sure you are not actually running or the print command arent trying to run another print server like lpd.... rather than cups
or LPRng or whatever the heck it's called
red hat likes to run everything all at once so both might be running if you are doing stuff by hand and these two overwrite each others /etc/printcap
or both write /etc/printcap anyway to the way they like it

this from another discussion about rh9
Quote:
Keep in mind that he programs called 'lpr, lpd, lpq' etc refer to
binaries that are provided in both LPRng *and* CUPS, for backwards
compatibility reasons. In reality they are symlinks to stuff in
/etc/alternatives which then points to the correct binary for whichever
printer suite is active. You use redhat-switch-printer to switch these
symlinks around to refer to either LPRng or CUPS; they can't refer to
both at the same time.

Thanks for the reply. I've managed to not use LPD and only using CUPS.
But I still can't print.

I think the error lies within the Red Hat Printer configuration.
When I choose a printer, I have to choose if the printer is connected through CUPS (IPP), UNIX (LPD), Windows (SMB), Novell (NCP) or JetDirect.

Logically I choose CUPS (IPP) here, after making my selection I have to enter the following things: "Server" and "Path".

I don't have a clue what I should type here since my printer is a network printer and is not connected to any computer, it's connected directly to the switch.
By default the "Server" row is empty and the "Path" row says: "/printers/queue1"
I don't have a clue what that is. Anyone know what I should put there?

And one more thing, how do I install a new printer driver in Red Hat? For CUPS I just copy a PDD file to the cups/model folder, but how to I make the Red Hat Printer Configuration tool to recognize a new driver?

Thanks for any help
