Can' install Linux on new Gateway SX2110G-UW23 fights with windoze 8
I Just bought a Gateway desktop model SX2110G-UW23.
It has windoze 8 on it and I am having trouble trying to install linux.
I was going to leave win 8 on it and add linux with a boot maganger but everything I try seems to not work. I switched the hard drive for one with bootable linux and grub but the computer gives a message that there is no bootable device on the computer. Now I have somehow got it to where I can no longer boot into the cd/dvd or my flash drive with puppy linux on it.
Any ideas will be much appreciated.
I ran into all kinds of problems trying to dual-boot Fedora and Windows-7 on the same drive. Finally, I added a second drive and put the Linux partitions along with the boot record on the second disk. Now I use the boot options to select which disk I want to boot from. The second disk can be configured with additional Windows partitions and Linux can access the Windows partitions. This configuration has been very stable for months. Good luck.
If it has Windows 8, it has Windows "Secure Boot" enabled. Did you disable Secure Boot in the UEFI (BIOS)?
It would help to know what distro/version of Linux you are trying to install. You should do some research on that distro and secure boot before you proceed.

I tried to install: Slack 14, Kanotix, PUPPY, Sabayon 13.08, and Mepis.
How do I disable Secure boot in UEFI ?
I think it's similar to BIOS. During POST after a reboot, before the OS starts to load, you should see something like "Press [some key] to enter setup." Sometimes it's a function key, sometimes it's ESC or DEL.
Once you are in there, you'll need to find the correct menu item to disable secure boot and save the change.
It's probably best to check HP's support pages/docs for your particular model of computer for instructions.

Thank you for the replies. I now have the computer devoid of Microslop and with just Linux now.
The key was Del that put me into bios setup.
I really had to try very many attempts before I got it to allow me to run in normal so I could re partition the hard drive and install the Linux that I have running now.
Sabayon is what I am running and the little computer works very nicely.
Many thanks. You were very helpful and I appreciate it much.

Having similar issues trying to install a Linux distro on a SX2110G. Can you detail how you did it ? Spent a couple of hours messing with the BIOS, endless reboots. Pretty frustrating. thanks in advance....

I too am having the same problem. I've disabled the secure boot in the bios, but it will not boot off of anything except the Windoze 8 hard drive. Not USB nor DVD.
Could you please let us know what exactly you changed to get it to work?
