Can't watch my DVD's with xine

Hello!

I have installed Linux Mandrake 9.1. When i wanna watch my DVD's with Xine there is no DVD Button on the Panel. I have sent an Mail to XINE ant i got the response that i need a Video DVD decoder plugin but they didn't told me the name of the plugin. Please can you tell me the name of the plugin and where i can get it. I have tried some plugins but i got the error message that i need a demuxer plug in. Or is it a different problem? It's the first time i use Linux and Xine so it would be great if you can help me step by step. I have never installed plugins before so maybe i made a mistake. Thank you for your effort.

Sincerely yours

Thomas

Mandrake doesn't ship the ability to play DVDs because of stupid IP
reasons. As you may not be aware if you are in the U.S. and you
play DVDs on linux you are violating the DMCA. So Mandrake cripples
xine. Just download the latest xine-lib and xine-ui from their site
and compile from source. You could also try googling for the plugin
someone may have it posted it.

Hi.

I'd recommend using MPlayer over xine for DVDs. It really is superior.

From the xine website:
Quote:
Please Note: the dvdnav plugin has been merged into the xine-lib tree, so for normal users it is no longer necessary to install any external DVD plugins. However, for encrypted DVD playback libdvdcss is needed.
So you'll probably need libdvdcss. Then get the newest version of Xine and install.

Boring sidenote: Xine was the first ever program I compiled in Linux. Before that, I'd been using rpms.
