Can't watch DVD unless root, get 'video_decoder: can't raise nice priority'

I watch a DVD once a year or so. This year I can't watch unless I run as root. I run xine and get:
Quote:
video_decoder: can't raise nice priority by 1
video_out: can't raise nice priority by 1
then it tries 2. I have libdvdcss installed; otherwise I couldn't read them as root.

I've tried permissions 777 on /dev/dvd , /dev/fb0 , /dev/agpgart.

I must have missed a permission somewhere.

According to the Debian wiki, you need to have installed libdvdread4 and libdvdcss2 (instead of libdvdcss).

You can read more about it here.

Hmmmmm.... It's gone back to working properly without doing anything. Oddly user has no permissions on the dvd device; I thought it had to.

Wikipedia sez that libdvdcss2 and libdvdcss are the same things, that some distros use one, others the other. Slackware doesn't distribute it; I build from source.
