Can't use Open Office with Sinhala language

Hi

I am using Mandriva 2006 Powerpack and I have Open Office 2.0-pre. I tried Sinhala language and I can type Sinhala text with the help of KDE keyboard tool. I have MalithWeb and lklug Sinhala fonts installed. I can use Sinhala without much problems on Evolution, Thunderbird, KWord, Kopete,Firefox, etc. The following text get rendered correctly on Firefox as you see.

සිංහල හොඳට වැඩ කරනවා.

But when I tried to use Open Office, the fonts get jumbled up. This happens with the other above specified applications on Mandrake 10.0. But Mandriva 2006 seems to have got it right.

The second word in the above Sinhala sentence is shown as හ ොඳට in open office without the space between the first two characters. (I can't reproduce it the exact way because Firefox doesn't have that problem.) If your browser has the same problem you would see the exact way it is rendered. It is the same way the text is rendered in Windows 2000 with Malithi Web font. So does this mean that new linux distros have its own way of rendering fonts which would be a disaster or does Open Office have a problem? Or do I need to configure something in Open Office?

Thanks

Neranjana

I am not sure this is relevant, but I have noted that when OOo does font substitution, the spacing is off.
If this is it, then take solace in knowing that it is not your language that is being singled out.....
I have not followed OOo bugs in some time--you might check their web site to see if this is a known issue
