Can't update to the latest version of Clamav on Suse 11.1

Greetings,

I’m currently trying to update my Suse 11.1 copy of Linux.

I got some messages that Clamav was not up to date.

I tried to use YUM which I installed on the machine but that did nothing.

It seems that I can only update Clamav by using Klamav.

What’s happening is that the system is telling me that it’s going to recompile Clamav, starts doing various tasks but doesn’t really work.

When I use YUM on my CentOS 5.3 server it simply updates Clamav to the current version and then I use Freshclam to update the virus definitions…done.

My questions is this; is there anyway to get the latest version of Clamav without going through the that Klamav thing. Klamav seems O.K. for updating the virus definitions but that’s all.

What’s wrong with all the Linux software people?

Can’t they just get their act together and make their software work. I’m also trying to set up a mail server on my Suse 11.1 box but between figuring out how to install Postfix, Dovecot, Cirus-IMAP I’m not getting anywhere.

As much as I hate to say this, these things only seem to be rocket science on Linux. I have much less problems installing software on Windoz.

Linux software people need to come up with workable install programs for their software products so more people who aren’t software experts can make Linux really workable.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

BTW, my Suse 11.1 does have the latest updates

Why don't you use the package manager?!?

Thanks, went through the Yast package manager but it shows the older version of clamav packages.

Could it be that only the previous version of clamav is available for suse 11.1?

Also, at the end of the process of compile for the .96 version using Klamav the follow shows and it hangs up on the last item which is FILELIST...if that means anything in the clean up script.

So, the question now is how to get suse 11.1 to update clamav to the 0.96 version.

The latest for Suse 11.1 is version 0.94. Even Suse 11.3 has 0.95.3 ..

The Suse 11.3 SRC RPMS source code :
http://download.opensuse.org/source/.../oss/suse/src/

http://download.opensuse.org/source/....3-3.1.src.rpm
>> clamav-0.95.3-3.1.src.rpm .. 20-Mar-2010 15:12 ..

When you have built the package(s), using clamav.spec and
the new clamav-0.96 source, you can click the rpm package,
and Yast2 will install it.

Can I just get the updated RPM for Clamav, downloaded it and then use something like YUM or RPM or the Suse package manager to install the latest version?

knudfl 04-05-2010 11:59 AM

Suse is not using yum.
The name of the command line package tool is 'zypper'.
Please read 'man zypper'
zypper se <name> (or part of name) : to search a package name.
zypper in <package> : to install a package.

And no, I don't think, you will find any packages,
even future Linux versions use clamav version 0.95.
There is no other way than building it yourself.
Clamav-0.96 was released three days ago !
