Hi, I just installed this latest version of timidity and now I can't uninstall it. To install it I downloaded the tar file, unpacked it and then did the usual configure (with --enable-alsaeq), make, make install per the instructions. But the -iA option hasn't worked and now I can't uninstall the thing! I tried make clean which did some stuff but then gave up and now if I type timidity in xterm it's still there.
I'm running RedHat 8.0, please help me out here, thanks.
be very careful you are only deleting relevant files to the app you want to get rid of. the rm -rf command will delete anything without prompting for assurances so be careful.
mossy, I found the program file that was running and deleted that. Doing a search using 'timid*' doesn't find anymore files or directories, maybe it will be alright as it is, I just don't like having 'lost' files left around.
Is there anyway to find out from the config files what files were installed and where? Or would you expect that any associated files would have related names or be stored in directories with related names?
I installed the package by unpacking the tar file, then, as root typing ./configure, then make, and make install. It isn't an rpm file. I had tried installing a couple times before using additional options with the ./configure but they resulted in errors.
You /could/ read through the make files in the original tarball, you don't really need to understand them exactly - just look for lines which create directories and copy files. You should reverse all those in the reverse order they were done.
There will be a toplevel makefile called "make". Look though the commands in it - you *may* see something that says ":uninstall" just like you see one that says ":clean" - in which case, make uninstall will remove everything. Try synonyms too, if they appear.
