can't umount cdrom

hi

In kde when i umount cdrom using
umount /mnt/cdrom

It throwing an error
/dev/cdrom: Resource busy
.............

I m using kde as my window manager in Fc2 n eject is also not working

fine

But it seems to umount properly in gnome environment..

What might be the reason....

When you are unounting make sure that you do not have any applications accesing the drive,
and that you are not currently in the cdrom directory structure (via cd)

It will also not eject the cd until it is unmounted!

Also how do you know it is not unmounting properly in GNOME? What are the errors etc.

Well there seems to be a bug in the autorun utility that kde uses for the fc2 release.So you might not be able to umount properly.GNOME uses an automount daemon called magickdev,which does all the mounting and unmounting.
You might check what pid's are running with the "ps-ef " command.

An open window in Konqueror accessing the CD will also disable umount. Due to this hassle I now always access CDs like this:

1. right-click on the device symbol
2. mount
3. left-click on the device symbol to start Konqueror
4. do my work
5. close Konqueror
6. right-click on the device symbol
7. umount

Never had any problems then. Same goes for floppy.

hi there

one way u can try out is
free the Cd of the precoess that are usig it by

fuser -k /mnt/cdrom

/mnt/cdrom --is that path where ur cdrom is mounted

then try umount and eject ur cdrom drive it will work
