Can't Send mail with Evolution

this SHOULD be simple

I have a yahoo account, and I'm paying for pop\smtp so I don't have to leave my messages on the server.

I've been using outlook (yes I know, it sucks) without ANY trouble sending\receiving.

I set up my the yahoo account in Evolution and I can receive messages, no problem.

SENDING messages does not work...it just times out.

Here's what I'm doing in Evolution to set up the account:

Edit->Preferences

I highlight the yahoo account (it's the ONLY one I've set up for now) and click "edit".
I click on the "sending email" tab
Server Type = SMTP
Use Secure Connection = No Encryption
Authentication Type = Login (I've tried them ALL--no luck)
The "check for supported types" button does nothing...no response.
In the "username" field I type in my username (with or without "@yahoo.com", no luck)
"remember password" is checked

PLEASE help?
Thanks!

Do you use the smtp-server of your ISP?

Hi,

I had the same problem. I used a short version of my username in the "Sending Email, Authentification".
For example: janneman. When I changed that to my full user name, e.g., janneman@provider.us, it worked.

(In evolution: go to Edit - Preference - Mail accounts and then click on your account once to highlight it and then on Edit. Go to Sending Mail and type your full name under Authentification.)

I hope this helps.

Janneman.
