Exclamation Can't run belenix on qemu

Hi!

I'm trying to run run belenix on QEMU (by providing the iso as a -cdrom parameter). But I think I'm hitting a brick wall here. This is what shows up in Belenix terminal:

Code:
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@1,1/ide@1 (ata1):
timeout: abort request, target 0 lun 0
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@1,1/ide@1 (ata1):
timeout: abort device, target 0 lun 0
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@1,1/ide@1 (ata1):
timeout: reset target, target 0 lun 0
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@1,1/ide@1 (ata1):
timeout: reset bus, target 0 lun 0
a number of times. Then it asks to go to maintainance mode. I can provide the password (nothing seems to work as password) or skip with ctrl-D... which repeats the same message.

Also, on QEMU's output, I get this:
Code:
dma: command 0x8 not supported
dma: command 0x9 not supported
dma: command 0x8 not supported
dma: command 0x9 not supported
dma: command 0x8 not supported
dma: command 0x9 not supported
dma: command 0x8 not supported
dma: command 0x9 not supported
This are the parameters I'm providing qemu to run:
Code:
-cdrom belenix/belenix0.6.1.iso -net nic,macaddr=00:00:00:00:00:02 -net tap,ifname=tapdsl -m 256
I'm running the QEMU from ubuntu 7.10 and belenix 0.6.1.

Thanks in advance

I can't see from your post if you have created a file that will hold Belenix when you boot the .iso? In case you haven't then;

For an expanding 4Gb file something like

Code:
qemu-img create -f qcow belenix.img 4000M
will create the file. Then start the QEMU VM with

Code:
qemu -hda belenix.img -cdrom belenix/belenix0.6.1.iso -net nic,macaddr=00:00:00:00:00:02 -net tap,ifname=tapdsl -m 256
Best of luck...

Good question.

I'm afraid that I don't know but I have never used QEMU, even with bootable .iso images, without one.

I got to start it... at least could get into the session, but it doesn't work quite right. I did an ls and this is what I got:

Code:
ld.so.1: ls: fatal: /usr/foss/lib/preloadable_libiconv.so: open failed: No such file or directory
What the hell is going on?

Did you check the integrity of your Belenix .iso?

Yes... it's the same MD5 for the iso as it's published in the internet:

d8d6140759d4e24d2bed518c2989ed22 /usr/local/qemu/belenix/belenix0.6.1.iso

see the MD5 here: http://www.genunix.org/distributions...te/?q=download

You may want to try Virtual Box instead of qemu.
