Can't retain changed fonts on Gaim

Hi,
I have Gaim v0.81 bundled with Knoppix 3.6 which I have Hard-Disk installed. I use it to chat on the Yahoo network. The problem I am facing is that while chatting in a chat room (channel) when I change the styling of whatever I am typing, for eg. make my fonts green or make them bold, it gets displayed in the room, but the next time I type them all their styling is lost and they return to the default. I am not being able to retain them.

The Gaim FAQ says the following :-
Quote:
How do I change the font Gaim uses?
A.
The font preference in Gaim is used only for the formatting of outgoing messages. The display fonts used by the rest of Gaim are those specified by GTK. To change this font you need to edit your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file.
-- from http://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#q17

However it doesn't solve my problem as I want to be able to change the formattings of my outgoing messages and retain them for the whole of my current session.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The FAQ is talking about the font that your computer uses to show your buddy list etc. The formatting on outgoing messages is controlled through Preferences->Interface->Conversations->Message Text->Default Formatting

Not really sure how much good it'll do you though. Most people I know strip incoming text styles as most people pick horrid colors to try to have a conversation in ... What's wrong with black on white?

Thanks a lot. Following the menu path you described solved my problem.

Actually Gaim shows the text other people type in quite a controlled eye friendly manner by default and I am not changing it. I wanted to change the formattings of what I type since in most of the Yahoo just black on white at size 10 makes you as good as invisible to others.

Well, thanks again, this has helped a lot
