Do you mean only a few of the new releases can't be played while other slightly older DVD's play fine? And they are store bought?

If you mean that you cannot play commercial DVDs, then look here:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories
Enable the rpmforge repository and set yum priorities (CentOS 1, EPEL 2, rpmforge 3). Then
yum install libdvdcss libdvdread libdvdplay libdvdnav lsdvd
Congratulations: you can now play commercial DVDs and go to jail for violation of the Millenium Copyright Act if the FBI catches you at it!
