Can't play MP3's with any player

I have been trying to play MP3's using a variety of players and I just cant get it to work. I am currently trying to use amaroK. After I import the files it will allow me to create a play list but then when I go to play it its just goes through each song without actully playing it. It seems like it is displaying the files fine, It lists the title, album and length. It just wont play them.

Any help would be much appericated.

Some distros dont have the necessary codecs included to play mp3s. Since you didnt say which distro you have cant be much help. Ubuntu and fedora are 2 such distros but there are ways round it on the forum.
