Yesterday when I was doing my job, the electrics shutdown suddenly and my computer was shutdown. After that I began experiencing problems. The main problem was that X server couldn't open because it couldn't open unix:7100 (or something like that) so it can't render fonts.. it said it can't find font fixed etc.. so i disabled this option in XF86Config file.. Now X Window is working and I don't see any view change in fonts.

Another problem is that I can't login my session in X Windows... Here what is says: (I got it in .xsession-errors file..

/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/X11/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "tunix"
mkdtemp: private socket dir: Permission denied

What can I do ? I can login via the root account to X... I don't want to re-install the whole Fedora distribution because it's very difficult to update all those packages again. (my connection is slow these days )

When you rebooted after the crash did you run fsck?

I restored my files in my home directory, then recreated the user but it didn't work. Also as I said before I had problems with X.. I removed the unix://7100 line than it worked but I want my Fedora box fully work.. So I re-installed everything.. I hope everytime when the electricity goes, my box still works.. (

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I just used apt-get (i'm on debian) to remove and re-install kdm and xdm.

Try checking permissions on /tmp directory.

# ls -ld /tmp

The right ones should be:
drwxrwxrwt 10 root root 376 Apr 22 06:01 /tmp

Try changing permissions (the 1 is for t, sticky bit)

# chmod 1777 /tmp
