Hello,
After changing my display manager I get this error when I try to load the USB memory with Spacefm.
Code:
Error creating textual authentication agent: Error opening current controlling terminal for the process (`/dev/tty'): No such device or address (polkit-error-quark, 0)
Error mounting /dev/sdb1: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.UDisks2.Error.NotAuthorizedCanObtain: Not authorized to perform operation
The only file I modified was /etc/rc.d/rc.x but only to add the new DM.
I can't load the USB as user but I can as root.
It seems like as user Spacefm can't create the run folder for the USB.
Ouch, is this on Vector Linux? I have no personal knowledge of that but "error opening /dev/tty" is pretty bad. Is your old desktop environment still operable, and what happens when you switch over to that?
yes it is, the old DM is still there.
I just want to see if it can be fixed, I used exactly the same procedure on an identical install with no problem.
I'm sure this can be fixed, but I'm not an expert on the Freedesktop side of things. I'm just trying to get more information. If I can't help, than someone else here surely can.
Can you elaborate on the exact steps you took when modifying the system -- especially anything you did with sudo -- and the exact modifications you made to rc.x.
Modifying the default desktop manager is pretty invasive, and a number of things might have broken in the process.
The only thing I changed in the rc.x was the line pointing to the DM binary from
/usr/share/gdm
to
/usr/share/slim
in order to launch Slim instead of GDM.
Now I modified that back to GDM and after I log in with GDM the USB mounts normally, so I guess the issue is something Slim interferes with.
I suppose it is. Like I said, I'm not up to date on the way the popular distros are doing things right now. No experience with Slim either, I'm afraid.
On my system, you start the DM from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.
Have you installed Slim yourself, or is this from your distro's package manager?
I suppose someone with knowledge about polkit config will be able to offer better help. Or if you're feeling adventurous, you could try doing some research on that yourself. To the best of my knowledge, polkit is the mechanism that grants your user additional priviledges for certain things, such as the ability to mount drives as a regular user.
