I am having a problem logging into Kubuntu. I type in my id/password and the screen goes black for a second, then I get prompted to enter my login info again and the login box is moved to the lower right corner of the screen.
I've gotten all the updates that Adept tells me to get, however, I didn't reboot for 60 days until last night (when the problem started).
At the Kubuntu login screen, when I choose "Session Type" from the "Menu" option, if I pick "KDE" then I can login just fine. However, I normally used "Default", not "KDE". When I login with "KDE" all my user settings are gone when I login. All the desktop icons are present, but they are in the wrong order. My background is the default KDE one, my amaroK has no record of my Collection, etc.
I tried searching around and I noticed this happening to people with low disk space. This is not the case for me. My root partition has over 20GB left on it and my data partition (where /home is mounted) has over 100GB of space. I've also tried deleting my /tmp directory (as root) to no avail. I also tried to rename my ~/.kde folder and logging in, but the same thing happens.
Currently I am at work so I cannot try any suggestions until I get home. Thanks in advance for anyones help/suggestions.
I came home on my lunch hour to play with this some more. I realized something quite odd. I never installed straight Ubuntu, I went right to Kubuntu. I always used the "Default" session type when I logged in, which took me to a KDE desktop. However, when I choose "KDE" as the session type, my desktop environment is quite different.
I would imagine if I could somehow move my "Default" settings to my "KDE" settings, everything would be fine an dandy.
After playing around a bit more, it appears the only thing I'm missing right now are my user settings (wallpaper, Karamba themes, etc.). This leads me to believe that something in my "default" desktop is screwy, but I have no idea what.
I'm having the same problem except I can't get in using KDE. What is the minimum amount of drice space needed to run Kubuntu as I currently have it running dual OS with XP?
