Unhappy can't load mdm ...error with Keycodes?

I have recently somhow messed up my system (mint rebecca)where it can't continue to the mdm login screen. I get square characters instead of english text. I can't login to a gui either with terminal as it gives a notice of can't open display. I'm stuck in limbo. Help..here is my xorg file. FYI...anything that can be done can only be done via command prompt.

loading Rebecca problems

Yes I dowloaded it months ago when I first installed. Yes I know I can do a reinstall but that would erase all my auxiliary programs and tweaks, emails, and docs. Surely there must be some way to install partial file systems?
