Can't launch SMplayer
Hi LQ.org. Upgraded my Arch and now I cannot launch SMplayer. In Urxvt I start it and promt says "SMPlayer v. 14.3.0 launched in Linux", cursor goes to new line and nothing further happens. And if I open any media file with smplayer I get the sound after a delay but no GUI. Tried to remove config of the program in ~ but with no luck. Searched Google, they say to "chown ~/.gnome2" to my user and group which I did and it didn't solve the problem. What else can I do to try to fix it?

What I normally do is
#ps -A | grep -i smplayer
to see if it's running. If it is and it's not iconified or minimized, you can delete the config file and restore the default config by...
From the SMPlayer FAQ
Quote:
The easiest way to find the configuration files of SMPlayer is by selecting the option "Open configuration folder" in the Help menu. If you want to delete the current configuration and start with the default settings, just delete the file smplayer.ini (important: be sure SMPlayer is not running when you delete the file).

dijetlo, I don't need to "ps" smplayer, it plays music so it is running. And I already tried to delete its config which is mentioned in the topic. All that didn't work.

It may be possible that SMplayer is indeed showing up, but outside of the visual screen. Try to start it with the -pos option, setting it to 0,0 so that it is displayed in the top left corner.
More info on the options as usual with

Downgrading...
Ah, that wasn't necessary, I went easy way: downgraded to v0.8.6. Works now. They must have screwed something up in new version... Besides, why did devs make new version "14.3" if previous one was only "0.8"? Is it just me or the number lacks some logic?
